Issue 4, Spring 1986
Chuck MacDougal reports that on a recent visit to the Tibetan capital, Lhasa,
he was amazed at the large number of animal skins on sale in the old basaar
behind the Jokhang temple.
"There were easily 20 leopard skins, all Panthera pardus. I did not see
any snow leopard skins, but people on other trips claim to have done so. There
were a few skins of golden cat and lynx. All were being openly sold. The first
price quoted for a large leopard skin was 1,000 yuan (about US$330)."
