Issue 17, Autumn 1992
Lynx in southern Norway came under complete protection from 1 March 1991, reports the
Council of Europe Newsletter, Naturopa.
Quoting the Norwegian national agency it said the country's lynx population was estimated
at about 300, with the majority in the north of the country. In southern Norway, however,
the lynx was vulnerable and it had been feared that, with the hunting season now lasting
from 1 February to 31 March, it could be locally extirpated. Hunting regulations will be
stricter for the 1993 season.
